The Accounting Manager oversees the day-to-day accounting operations for a multi-state organization with multiple subsidiaries. This role is hands-on and responsible for payroll, general ledger accuracy, sales tax compliance, financial reporting, and support for audits and year-end close. Strong Excel skills, attention to detail, and experience working in complex entity structures are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily accounting functions across multiple entities and states
  • Maintain accurate general ledger records, reconciliations, and entries
  • Process and review payroll in compliance with multi-state labor laws
  • Ensure accurate and timely sales tax filings across multiple jurisdictions
  • Prepare and distribute monthly financial statements by entity and consolidated
  • Manage 1099 processing and year-end vendor compliance
  • Support personal property tax filings and ensure proper reporting
  • Assist with year-end close and preparation for external audits
  • Maintain and troubleshoot legacy accounting software systems
  • Use advanced Excel functions for reporting, reconciliations, and variance analysis
  • Collaborate with the Controller on process improvements and system upgrades

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a multi-entity environment
  • Payroll and sales tax compliance experience across multiple states
  • Strong working knowledge of 1099 and year-end tax requirements
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas, etc.)
  • Familiarity with legacy or custom financial systems
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Experience with multi-state and subsidiary accounting preferred
  • Retail dealership and related legacy system experience highly preferred
