The Controller oversees all aspects of accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and treasury management, while providing strategic insights and modernizing systems. It requires strong leadership, extensive GAAP knowledge, and experience managing audits, tax compliance, and legacy systems—ideally within a retail dealership environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting operations including GL, AP/AR, and financial reporting
  • Lead year-end close and the preparation of audited financial statements
  • Act as primary liaison with external auditors and tax advisors
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of state-level financial reporting and tax requirements
  • Maintain insurance controls and manage risk compliance documentation
  • Oversee treasury management, including cash flow forecasting and banking relationships
  • Provide strategic financial insights and partner with the senior team on planning
  • Review and optimize accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Lead efforts to modernize and integrate legacy accounting systems
  • Mentor and develop accounting team members
  • Ensure ethical business and accounting practices are followed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including management
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation
  • Proven experience working with external auditors and tax advisors
  • Strong Excel skills and financial system acumen
  • Experience managing insurance, treasury, and tax compliance
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • CPA, CMA or other professional designation highly preferred
  • Retail dealership and related legacy system experience highly preferred.
